Auditions are for students wishing to change orchestras, or to move from Violin 2 to Violin 1.
If your orchestra and section remain the same, then you do not need to audition.
Youth Orchestra: Immediately after Orientation and until Youth Orchestra rehearses at 10:30. Auditions resume at 12:15 at the end of the Youth Orchestra's rehearsal. Room 009.
Intermediate II: a sign-up sheet will be on the door no later than 8:55 am. Sign up early! Immediately after Orientation go to Room 035 to audition with assistant conductor Mr. Rob Rempher. At 10:30 all cello and bass students will go to Room 069 to audition with Mr. Carlos Bardales. Students should be prepared to play a solo, some scales, and so some sight reading.
Intermediate I: Immediately after Orientation, ALL Intermediate 1 students go to Room 041 to pick up music and/or audition with Ms. Livingston. This includes cello and bass students. There will be two lines outside room 041: One to just pick up music and the other to audition. Auditions are for students who would like to move up to a different section in the orchestra. (ie. 3rd vln to 2nd vln, etc.) There will be a sign -up sheet for auditions on the door.
Students should be prepared to play a solo, some scales, and to do some sight reading.
Beginner 1 and 2: Immediately after Orientation, all beginner students go to Room 086. Both groups will be together. Ms. Swisher would like each student to play a short song for everyone. This will allow her to evaluate the beginner levels and let each student know which group he or she is placed in. Each student will need a parent to fill out an information sheet for Ms. Swisher.
Cellists and Bass Players auditioning for Intermediate II and Youth Orchestra: come to Room 069 at 10:30. Youth Orchestra: Cellist must play two scales in three octaves. One of the scale has to be in a minor key. Bass players must play two scales in two octaves. One of the scales has to be in a minor key. Cellists and bass players must play two contrasting movements. These two movements could be from a concerto or sonata. One of the movements has to be slow. Also, cellists and bass players will be asked to sight read. Aspiring Intermediate II: must play two scales in two octaves from the following list: (fa major, b flat major, e flat major, g major, d major, and e major). Also, one scale in a minor key. Bass players must play two scales in one octave from the following list: (fa major, b flat major, e flat major, g major, d major, and e major). Also, one scale in a minor key. Cellists and bass players must play one movement from a concerto or sonata. Also, cellists and bass players will be asked to sight-read.
