Youth Symphony Leadership Auditions will be held Sunday September 21, starting at 2:00, Room 041.
If you are a string player and have been playing in your current DUSS orchestra for at least one year, you are eligible to audition for the Leadership Chairs. The Leadership Chairs are the first 4 chairs in each section. (i.e. Vl 1, Vln 2, (Vln 3), Vla, Cello, Bass). (If you are an assistant in the orchestra, or an adult volunteer, you are not eligible for the Leadership Chairs.)
Students will be auditioned on mystery measures from our concert music:
Youth Symphony: This orchestra performs original works from the standard orchestral repertoire as well as some advanced level arrangements while refining orchestral technique. Orchestra performs with some guests, alumni and primarily student soloists.
Who: String musicians who demonstrate an advanced set of abilities on their instrument.
Rehearsals: Saturday, 10:30-12:15 p.m., Bone Hall, Mary Duke Biddle Music Building
Audition Requirements: *Solo Piece, rhythmic sight-reading, three major and three minor scales reflecting your current technical ability. Prepare the number of octaves that reflects your level of technique for each scale you are prepared to play.
*Solo Piece: Please select two or three minutes of a piece that shows your technical and musical ability.
Conductor: Shelley Livingston
