DYS Weekly Email (Sept. 5th rehearsal)

DYS Weekly Email (Sept. 5th rehearsal)

Hello new and old orchestra members!

New members, welcome to the Duke Youth Symphony!

Returning orchestra players - Welcome back!

The Duke Youth Symphony (DYS) is conducted by Ms. Shelley Livingston.  The orchestra has two parent assistants: Jun Lee and Elizabeth Shamblin.  Rehearsals will be Saturdays, from 10:15-12:15pm in Bone Hall, Biddle Music Building. Please arrive at 10:00 to receive music and get settled before rehearsal begins.

I will be posting to the Youth Orchestra blog (usually on Thursday mornings) to let you know about rehearsal details. Sometimes Ms. Livingston will have "sectionals" for a particular section to work on their parts as a group. That group will be asked to arrive before rehearsal, at 9:00AM. I'll announce those in weekly emails and the blog, so be sure to check every week.

Ms. Livingston has picked three pieces to do for the October concert. You can view some parts online to prepare for tomorrow, but please note:

*These parts are not bowed the same as the ones you will use for rehearsal and performance and have different information. All members are asked to rehearse and perform from the parts that will be given to you on Saturday. We will bring copies for everyone!

Overture to Coriolan, Op 63 by Beethoven

Sospiri by Elgar

Lincoln Portrait by Aaron Copland (with Durham Symphony’s William Henry Curry narrating)
