Sept. 12 email -- with bowings!

Hello Intermediate Strings Families,

Our first rehearsal was off to a good start! Mr. Rempher separated the large group of second violinists into seconds and thirds -- with no judgement on skill levels -- just balancing out the piece and giving it another “voice”.

I’ll have nametags for all on Saturday! Come up front and get a name. If you’d like a different name, let me know. I have lots of ideas. (Do you remember what poco means in Italian? I think that would be a terrific name for a kitten. But, sadly, we do not have any kittens in this orchestra.)

If you are playing the third violin part, please let me know so I can seat you together with other thirds and you’ll have sense of solidarity.

Not sure how the orchestra is arranged? If you think of the orchestra as half of a pie and Mr. Rempher with fork in hand and pie in front of him, then to his left will be the 1st violin “slice”, in the middle will be the seconds, to the right of them will be the thirds and violists, and then on the far right, the cellos. (* see my cartoon below) I’ll put the section leaders tags out, but the rest of you get “festival seating” in your particular pie slice. But be sure to get your name tag and put it on your stand so I can take roll… and it will help all of us learn your name.

Here are those bowings we promised you. It will serve you well to just copy them down onto your own music, rather than printing it up again, because your brain will be absorbing the information as you mark it down -- like practicing without the instrument! And you will save paper. Don’t forget to write down the measure numbers as well.

Violin I bowings

Violin II bowings
