2026 DUSS Composer in Residence

Tyler Jordan
Tyler Jordan (b. 1997) is a composer and performer currently pursuing a PhD in composition at Duke University under the mentorship of John Supko. Tyler's compositions combine practices from various styles and genres, resulting in experimental works that incorporate new modes of notation and performance practices that focus on the body. They received their M.M. in Composition at the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University and a B.M. in Composition and B.M. in Performance at Chapman University. As a performer, Tyler enjoys playing works for solo bass clarinet. They also have gone on two tours with their noise project. As a researcher, Tyler works with noise musicians in the United States to explore affect and object transfiguration in performance.

Tyler will be visiting DUSS ensemble rehearsals to learn more about the programming over the next few weeks. Over the 2026 calendar year, they will be working with Dr. Isoa Chapman and Ms. Erica Shirts, alongside Duke composition faculty, to develop workshops and classes for our students and students in the community. Tyler will also be composing a piece for one of our orchestras, as well as a piece for smaller DUSS ensembles to be performed Fall 2026.

We look forward to this exciting partnership!
