Congratulations to the Concerto Competition Winners!
* Alexander McDowell, Barber Violin Concerto Op. 14, Movement 1 - Allegro
* Amelia Cho, Prokofiev Violin Concerto No. 2, Movement 1 - Allegro Moderato

American composer Samuel Barber’s Violin Concerto’s first movement is music filled with yearning and nostalgia. Unlike other violin concerti, this movement begins with a lyrical first subject announced at once by the solo violin, without any orchestral introduction.

Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No 2. in G Minor was a work tailored for French violinist Robert Soëtens. The first movement beings without any orchestral introduction. Premiered in Madrid, the Spanish liked the premiere so much that they sent a delegation of musicians to thank Prokofiev afterwards.
