Cello Choir 1 2021 Fall Semester Information

Hello Cello Choir-I Families,

Welcome to the 2021 Fall semester.

Cello Choir I is a supplemental group class for students taking private lessons through the Duke University String School who have mastered the skills learned in the Beginning Cello Group Class.  Students will build on technical skills to prepare concert pieces as an ensemble.  Students will learn C, G, F, and D major scales in one octave.

Also, students will be introduced to the forward extencion when learning the D major scale.

During the course of the Fall semester, I will review the following skills:

  • Correct posture and bow hold
  • Ability to play in all parts of the bow (tip, middle, frog)
  • Left Hand with curved tunnel fingers with a relaxed thumb underneath the second finger
  • Straight line from elbow to wrist to pinky "EWP line" for left arm
  • Know all note names in first
  • Understand and be able to clap basic rhythms (eighth notes, quarter notes, half notes, whole notes)
  • Also, the ability to play with good quality tone and intonation.
  • Below you will find the pieces we will prepare for our concert.
    • The Little Fiddle.  German Folk Song
    • Lament.  Bohemian Folk Song
    • Menuet by Joseph Exaudet
  • Our last two in *person classes, will be a run through rehearsals, so it’s important to begin practicing the music now.
  • Please watch for weekly emails with instructions and practice assignments for the week.
